The health and well being of your pet is our primary concern. We are proud to offer clean, state of the art Boarding facilities for your convenience, and for your pet’s comfort and safety. Any time multiple pets are together in the same facility, the spread of infectious disease is possible. We believe that it is possible to minimize this risk to your pet, but we need your help and cooperation to do it. If your pet’s primary care is done at another hospital, please make sure that we have the vaccination and pertinent medical records at least 48 hours prior to the boarding stay. This allows our staff to ensure that all health requirements are met.
We board only healthy pets in our Boarding Facility.
BIRD BOARDING:
Birds must be negative for Chlamydia and have had a full yearly diagnostic workup within the past year. The annual exam/labwork in birds includes fecal and choanal Gram’s stain (these help detect early disease to the Respiratory and Gastrointestinal tracts), an intestinal screen (which will detect the presence of intestinal parasites) , a Complete Blood Count, a 5-panel chemistry (helps us “look inside” your bird) and Bile Acids (checks liver function). We only board healthy pets at our facility. There has recently been a large increase in the numbers of people who are keeping birds as pets. Birds have not been domesticated as long as our mammalian companions (like dogs) have been. Because of this, birds are experts at masking any signs of illness. Also, many avian diseases spread extremely easily. It is our policy at All Pets Medical & Laser Surgical Center to only board healthy birds. All of this will help to ensure that all of our boarding avian guests are healthy.
Chlamydiophila psittaci is a zoonotic organism, capable of causing disease in people. Clinical signs in birds can be variable and include respiratory and gastrointestinal systems. It can cause sneezing, runny eyes, liver failure, diarrhea, paralysis and death. This disease is highly contagious among birds and is easily spread. By ensuring that only birds testing negative for Chlamydiophila board in our facilities, we can decrease the risk to you and your pet.
