The health and well being of your pet is our primary concern. We are proud to offer clean, state of the art boarding facilities for your convenience, and for your pet’s comfort and safety. Any time multiple pets are together in the same facility, the spread of infectious disease is possible. We believe that it is possible to minimize this risk to your pet, but we need your help and cooperation to do it. If your pet’s primary care is done at another hospital, please make sure that we have the vaccination and pertinent medical records at least 48 hours prior to the boarding stay. This allows our staff to ensure that all health requirements are met.
We board only healthy pets in our Boarding Facility.
DOG BOARDING:
Dogs must have a current Rabies and Distemper vaccination and have had a Bordetella vaccination within the past 6 months. Bordetella, commonly known as “kennel cough” is a highly infectious disease among dogs. It is caused by the organism Bordetella bronchiseptica, and is spread through the respiratory secretions of infected animals. Clinical signs of disease include a dry hacking cough, increased phlegm and mucous production, exercise intolerance, and pneumonia. Duration of illness typically lasts 10 days to 2 weeks. However, if complications, such as pneumonia, arise this disease can be debilitating and life threatening. Treatment varies based on the degree of clinical signs, but can be lengthy and expensive. There is a vaccination available. The vaccine consists of intranasal administration of an altered bacterial strain. Because this disease is so infectious, we require vaccination every 6 months to prevent the spread of this disease. This is the advice that most vaccine manufacturers give for boarding facilities.
Rabies is a fatal neurological disease of mammals. Texas is a hot spot for rabies in wildlife. Since humans can also be infected and die of the disease it is incredibly important to ensure that your pets are current on this vaccination. All Pets Medical & Laser Surgical Center follows the most recent recommendations by the State of Texas, Public Health authorities, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
All pets must also have a completely physical examination in the past year to be eligible for our boarding facility.
The “Distemper Vaccine” or the DA2PP protects against Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvo virus, and Parainfluenza virus. These viral diseases are some of the most common and most infectious diseases that can affect your dog. Many of these viruses can cause disease so severe that they can become fatal, or cause irreversible life-long illness. All Pets Medical & Laser Surgical Center follows the most recent recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association in order to keep your dog safe. This includes vaccination of puppies every 3 weeks beginning at 6 weeks until they are 16 weeks old, boostering this vaccination in one and 2 years, and then vaccinating every 3 years after that. If you have any questions about new vaccination protocols, please do not hesitate to ask one of our knowledgeable staff members.
Because we want to send you home from your trip with a clean pet, your dog will be bathed the morning it goes home. We have discounted the price of baths for boarding to only $5.00.
