All Pets Veterinary Medical Center Reptiles and Amphibians

Being one of many special pets, Reptiles receive the same expert pet care that All Pets is known for. Dr. Rupley has over 25 years experience caring for reptiles. Our staff is specifically trained in proper handling techniques of exotic pets. Our patients are our family and we treat each pet as if it were our own.

Keeping your reptile both physically and emotionally healthy can be a difficult task. Internet resources for reptiles contain conflicting information. Let us provide a complete lifelong plan so that you and your pet can enjoy the best quality of life together.

When used in combination, annual patient exams and routine laboratory testing helps detect disease early and reduce the chance of your pet needing costly procedures later. More importantly, early detection and treatment is proven to extend the life of your exotic friend.

Physical Exam

There is no substitute for a thorough physical examination by a knowledgeable reptile veterinarian. Our trained doctor will examine your pet from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail and assess his or her overall health. The reptile veterinarian will evaluate the health of the heart, lungs, skin, teeth and mouth, and vision/eyes/ears. Many conditions affecting reptiles can be diagnosed in this way.

Annual physical exams are vital for the long-term health of your pet. These exams are the best way to prevent illness. The health and safety of you and your pet is our number one priority here at All Pets Medical Center. Schedule a physical exam for your reptile or amphibian today.

Recommended Laboratory Testing and Disease Screening

Parasite screening is necessary to ensure that your pet and family remain parasite-free. While uncommon, parasite infections in small mammals can be life-threatening and/or contagious to members of the household. A fecal float is performed to ensure that your pet did not pick up any unwanted guests.

Chemistry panel

A chemistry panel is recommended yearly to detect underlying diseases or health problems not detectable by physical exam. This test ensures that your exotic pet has normal kidney and liver functions as well as healthy electrolyte levels.

This test uses a very small volume of blood to assess the function of the organs. It tests for such things including liver function, kidney muscle damage, proteins in the blood, albumin and several different electrolytes, including calcium levels. Chemistry panels can help pinpoint problems non-invasively.

Complete blood count

CBC, or complete blood count, is a tool we use to identify blood disorders such as anemia. It also detects inflammation or infection. An analysis is done to measure and evaluate cells that circulate in the blood and viewed on a blood smear. Toxins and parasites can also be evident in the bloodstream on these test as well as other valuable information. And even in some cases, the results of the CBC will lead to other diagnostic tests.
