Physical Exam

There is no substitute for a thorough physical examination by a knowledgeable avian veterinarian. Our bird doctor provides a thorough examination of your bird from the tip of the beak to the last tail feather, and assesses his or her overall health. The veterinarian will inspect the health of the heart, lungs, feathers/skin, beak and mouth, vision/eyes/ears and lymph nodes. Many conditions affecting domesticated birds can be diagnosed in this way. If any diagnosis is made, proper avian medicine or treatment practices will be administered.

Annual physical exams are vital for the long-term health of your pet. These exams are the best way to prevent illness. The health and safety of you and your pet is our number one priority here at All Pets Medical Center. Schedule a physical exam for your bird today.

Laboratory Testing and Disease Screening

Chemistry panel

A chemistry panel is recommended yearly to detect underlying diseases or health problems not detectable by physical exam. This test ensures that your bird has normal kidney and liver functions as well as healthy electrolyte levels.

This test uses a very small volume of blood to assess the function of the organs. They test for such things including liver function, kidney muscle damage, proteins in the blood, albumin and several different electrolytes, including calcium levels. Chemistry panels can help pinpoint problems non-invasively.

Complete blood count

CBC, or complete blood count, is a tool we use to identify blood disorders such as anemia. It also detects inflammation or infection. An analysis is done to measure and evaluate cells that circulate in the blood and viewed on a blood smear. Toxins and parasites can also be evident in the bloodstream on these test as well as other valuable information. And even in some cases, the results of the CBC will lead to other diagnostic tests.
